Your files are yours

A folder you can open. A format you can read.

No proprietary database, no vendor cloud account. A Xogogy course is a folder on your computer holding an open JSON document and your media files.

An ordinary project folder

My course/
My course.xogogy the file you double-click to open the course
course.ccf.json the whole course as plain UTF-8 JSON
assets/ your images, audio, video and fonts as normal files
  history/
log.jsonl every edit: who, when, a label, the operations
save-state.json a checksum record that detects an interrupted save
fidelity-report.md the plain-language import report (imported courses)
fidelity-report.json the same report for tools (imported courses)
  • While you work in a saved project, a recovery copy of your unsaved changes is kept a second after you stop typing, so an unexpected shutdown can be recovered from. Save (Ctrl+S) writes the course.
  • The JSON is formatted the same way every time with stable ids, so it diffs cleanly in Git. Open and save a course you did not change and not one byte changes.
  • Every save is checked against the published JSON Schema. Any JSON tool can read the file, and the format is documented, part by part, with a complete example.
  • The format is open: the schema is under the MIT License and the format guide under CC BY 4.0. Anyone may read, write or build tools for it, free.

Export everything, always free

Need to hand all the text to a translator, check every quiz answer, or pull out every image under its original name? Export course data writes a clean folder:

my-course-export/
README.txt a guide to every file, and to the format
manifest.json size and SHA-256 of every file, and the format's name and version
course.ccf.json an exact copy of your course document
ccf.schema.json an exact copy of the JSON Schema it is checked against
outline.md every section, slide, text block, alt text and question
  variables.csv every variable
triggers.md every trigger in plain English
history.md every change: when, who and what
assets/ every media file, under its original name where known
assets-index.json which asset id is which file
fidelity-report.md the import report (imported courses)
fidelity-report.json the same report for tools (imported courses)

The README names the format and its version, links to the format guide and the online schema, and states the open licences, so an export explains itself even without this website.

This works with or without a licence. You never pay to get your own course data out.

One file for backup or sharing

“Save as course archive” packs a project into a single standard ZIP file with a small header. Any unzip tool can open it; there is no encryption and no special container. Opening an archive checks for unsafe paths, links and oversized files before anything is extracted, and the course is validated before it loads. Saving and opening archives needs no licence.

What that gets you

You can leave with everything you made, in formats other people can read: your text, your media, your edit history. The format is open and documented, so any tool can learn it: read the Common Course Format guide.

Build your next course. Bring the ones you have.

Building, importing, editing and Preview are free. Pay only when you're ready to publish.
