How do I add a slide layer?

Open the slide, choose Add layer in the Timeline, name the layer, then add objects to it and set its behaviour. On a scrolling page a layer is a card over the page.

A layer is a set of objects that sits on top of a slide and shows only when an interaction opens it. Layers are how you build pop-ups, feedback messages and extra detail.

Add the layer

  1. #

Select the slide in the Slides panel.

  2. #

In the Timeline below the slide, choose Add layer.

  3. #

Type a Layer name, such as More detail. Xogogy suggests the next free name, for example Layer 2.

  4. #

Press Enter. The new layer opens for editing, and the Timeline and stage bar show its name.

Put objects on it

  1. #

With the layer open, use the Insert tab to add text, images, shapes or buttons. They go on this layer.

  2. #

Switch back with Base layer in the Timeline layer list or the Base layer ▾ menu on the stage bar.

Set how the layer behaves

  1. #

Open the layer, click an empty part of the slide, and look at the Inspector. It shows the layer's Name and Timeline length (s).

  2. #

Under Layer behaviour, set the switches you need, each to not set, on or off:

    • Hide other slide layers
    • Hide objects on the base layer
    • Prevent clicking the base layer
    • Modal
    • Pause the base timeline while open
    • Hide when its timeline ends
    • Visible when the slide starts

Layers on a scrolling page

On a scrolling-page (flow) slide, a layer is a card that opens over the page.

  1. #

Add the layer with Add layer as above, or choose it in the stage's layer menu or the Timeline.

  2. #

The card shows over the page, which is dimmed and locked. The layer menu reads Layer: More detail, and a banner says which layer you are editing.

  3. #

Use the Insert tab to add text, images, media, buttons or widgets. They go into the card as blocks, and you can reorder, type in and delete them as on the page.

  4. #

Choose Back to base layer in the banner to return to the page.

Learners see the card over the dimmed page and close it with its close button or Escape.

Tip: A layer stays hidden until something shows it. Next, show the layer when the learner clicks something.

Delete a layer

  1. #

    Open the layer.

  2. #

Choose Delete layer in the Timeline. The base layer cannot be deleted.
