How do I show a layer when the learner clicks something?

Select the object, choose + Add interaction, pick Show layer and the layer, then give a close button on the layer a Hide layer interaction.

Last updated

Once a slide has a layer, an interaction opens it. A second interaction on the layer closes it again.

Open the layer

  1. #

Select the object the learner will click on the base layer, such as a More info button.

  2. #

On the Inspector's Interactions tab, choose + Add interaction.

  3. #

Under WHEN, keep the learner clicks and check the object.

  4. #

Under THEN, choose Show layer, then pick the layer as the Target layer.

  5. #

    Choose Save.

Add a close button

  1. #

Open the layer with the Base layer ▾ menu on the stage bar or the layer list in the Timeline.

  2. #

Add a button, for example with Insert › Button, labelled Close.

  3. #

With the button selected, choose + Add interaction.

  4. #

Under THEN, choose Hide layer and pick This layer.

  5. #

    Choose Save.

On a scrolling page

A button on a scrolling page can open a card layer too: select the button and, under When clicked, choose Run an interaction. The Interactions tab opens with a new interaction for that button; under THEN choose Show layer and pick the layer, then choose Save. Learners close the card with its close button or Escape, so you do not need a close button of your own. See add a layer.

Tip: To open a layer as soon as the slide starts, use the WHEN event the timeline starts on the base layer, or turn on Visible when the slide starts in the layer's Layer behaviour.

Check it

  1. #

Choose Preview and click the button.

  2. #

Open Open layers in the Preview side panel to see which layers are showing.
