How do I check variables and interactions while I preview?

In Preview, the side panel shows Open layers, Live variables, Quiz draws and an Interaction log that update as you click.

When a button does not do what you expect, Preview shows you why. Its side panel shows what the player is doing as you click.

Watch the course as it runs

  1. #

Choose Preview at the right of the ribbon tab row.

  2. #

Look at the panel beside the player. It has four parts:

    • Open layers lists the slide layers showing right now.
    • Live variables lists every variable and its current value.
    • Quiz draws shows which questions a question bank picked.
    • Interaction log (latest N / 16) lists the last 16 things the player did, newest first. An interaction that ran reads Interaction fired: followed by its name and event.
  3. #

Click a button or answer a question in the player.

  4. #

Check the panel. A variable that should change now shows its new value, and the interaction that ran appears at the top of the Interaction log.

Find out why an interaction did not run

  1. #

Do the thing that should start the interaction.

  2. #

If no Interaction fired: line appears in the Interaction log, the event or the object in the interaction does not match what you did. Exit Preview and check the interaction's WHEN part.

  3. #

If the interaction appears but nothing changes, check its condition under IF against the values in Live variables.

Tip: A variable's starting value is set in Course settings › Variables. Preview always starts from those values.
