How do I set the look of new shapes, buttons and text boxes?

In Course settings › Defaults for new objects, choose The theme or My own defaults, or select a formatted object and choose Set as default shape.

When you add a shape, button or text box, it takes a starting look. You choose where that look comes from.

Choose where new objects get their look

  1. #

Choose Course settings and open Defaults for new objects.

  2. #

Under NEW OBJECTS START FROM, choose one:

    • The theme: new objects carry no formatting of their own and follow the theme styles, so they change when the theme does.
    • My own defaults: set a fixed look for Shapes, Buttons and Text boxes. It is written into each new object, so it keeps that look even if the theme changes.
  3. #

Check the PREVIEW to see what the next object will look like.

Copy the look of an object you have already styled

  1. #

Select the shape, button or text box on the slide.

  2. #

On the Format tab, open All shape styles in Shape styles and choose Set as default shape at the foot of the list (Set as default text box for a text box). Or right-click the object and choose the same command.

  3. #

New objects of that type now start with this look. The message above the slide says what was set.

While you edit an object state, this command is off, and the control says why.

Tip: Theme styles on the same page also colour existing objects that have no formatting of their own, so a change there reaches objects already in the course.
