You edit text right where it sits on the slide, with its formatting in place. Text in shapes, text boxes, buttons and captions all works the same way.
Edit text on the slide
- #
Double-click the text on the slide. The caret appears where you clicked, an Editing badge shows on the object, and the ribbon's Text tab opens.
- #
Type your changes. Paste brings in plain text, so the slide keeps its own styling.
- #
To finish, click outside the object or press Tab, Ctrl+Enter or Escape. Your edit is kept.
From the keyboard, select the object and press F2 or Enter to start editing.
To link words, select them while editing and press Ctrl+K (or choose Insert › Hyperlink), then pick a web address or a slide in this course. Remove link takes the link off again.
Start from the Inspector
- #
Select the object and open the Design tab in the Inspector.
- #
In the Text section, choose Edit text on slide. The text opens for editing on the slide, with the caret at the end.
- #
Type, then finish as above.
To format the text, use the ribbon's Text tab. Press F6 to go to its font box and Escape to come back; using its controls keeps your edit open. The Text section has a Format text… button that opens the tab. See format text.
When the slide cannot open the text
Some objects cannot be edited on the slide: an object inside a group, one hidden in the editor or placed off the slide, or one shown in a state other than Normal. For these, the Text section says why and gives you a text box instead.
- #
Type in the Text box. The slide shows your draft as you type.
- #
Click away, press Tab or press Ctrl+Enter to keep the change. Press Escape to throw the draft away.
Text on a scrolling page
On a scrolling page, double-click a heading, text, quote, statement or list block to edit it the same way. See How do I edit and format text on a scrolling page?.
If Xogogy asks before applying an edit
- #
Some edits would remove formatting from part of the text, such as a word in bold. Xogogy asks first in an Apply text edit? dialog.
- #
Choose Apply to keep your new text, or Keep editing (or press Escape) to go back to your draft with the formatting intact.
Tip: To change the same wording on many slides, use find and replace instead of editing each slide.
Each finished edit is one step you can undo with Ctrl+Z.
