How do I find what uses an object or a variable?

Filter the Interactions tab by object, use More commands › Show referencing interactions before deleting, and select a variable's uses count.

Before you delete or rename something, it helps to know what depends on it. Xogogy shows you, and it will not delete an object that an interaction still points at.

See the interactions on an object

  1. #

Select the object on the slide.

  2. #

On the Inspector's Interactions tab, choose the object's filter at the top, such as Start button (1). The number is how many interactions belong to it.

See which interactions point at an object

When an interaction elsewhere on the slide uses an object, for example to show or hide it, Cut and Delete selected objects are greyed out and say Used by N interactions.

  1. #

    Select the object.

  2. #

Open More commands at the right of the ribbon tab row.

  3. #

Choose Show referencing interactions, straight after Delete selected objects. The Interactions tab lists them under Used by N interactions.

  4. #

Edit or delete each one, then delete the object.

  5. #

Choose Show all interactions to return to the full list.

If you try to delete the object anyway, for example with the Delete key, Xogogy keeps it and says Cannot delete "Start button" while an interaction uses it, followed by each interaction in plain words, with Show interaction below for each one.

See where a variable is used

  1. #

    Open Course settings › Variables.

  2. #

Select the usage count beside the variable, such as 3 uses.

  3. #

Each entry says what the variable does there, such as Checked in a condition or Shown in text, and names the slide, object and interaction. Select an entry to go to it.

Tip: Choose Show IDs in the variables toolbar to see each variable's stable ID alongside its name.
