How do I fix spacing and punctuation slips?

Open the import report and read Spacing and punctuation. Each row shows the slip in its words; choose Fix to correct just those characters.

Last updated

Xogogy reads the text of your course for small typing slips that are easy to miss on a slide: two spaces between words, a space before a full stop or comma, a word typed twice ("the the"), no space after a full stop ("done.Next"), a space at the start or end of a text box, and the same punctuation typed twice (".." or ",,").

Find the slips

  1. #

Open the import report: select the findings count in the header, or select the Course tab in the Inspector and choose Advanced.

  2. #

Find Spacing and punctuation. The number in brackets is how many slips were found.

  3. #

Each row says what the slip is, shows the words around it with the slip marked (a space shows as a dot), and names the slide and object, or the question.

  4. #

Choose the slide and object name to select it on the stage, or open the question.

Fix a slip

  1. #

Choose Fix on the row. Only the marked characters change; the formatting and any variables in the text stay as they were.

  2. #

The row disappears and the count goes down.

  3. #

Changed your mind? Press Ctrl+Z. Each fix is one step in the history, named after the slip, for example Fix space before "?".

Fix them all at once

There is no Fix all button in the report. Ask your assistant instead: "Check the course text for spacing and punctuation slips and fix them." It uses the check_text tool to list the slips, then fix_text_slips to fix the ones you choose, or all of them, as one change you can undo.

Tip: The check leaves alone what is meant to look that way: an ellipsis (...), decimals such as 2.5, numbered steps, short abbreviations such as "e.g.", web and email addresses, variable references and code. "had had" and "that that" are correct English and are not listed. In a French course a space before : ; ! and ? is correct and is not listed.

These findings are not import losses and do not add to the findings count. Checking never changes the course; nothing is corrected until you choose Fix. Slide titles, alt text, captions, feedback text and labels inside widgets are not checked, and there is no spell check.
