How do I make a button jump to a slide?

Select the button, choose + Add interaction, keep "the learner clicks", pick Jump to slide and the slide, then choose Save.

A new button does nothing until you give it an interaction. This is the most common one: when the learner clicks the button, go to a slide you choose.

Send the learner to a slide

  1. #

Select the button on the slide. If you do not have one yet, choose Insert › Button and give it a clear label such as Continue.

  2. #

Open the Inspector's Interactions tab and choose + Add interaction.

  3. #

Under WHEN, leave the event as the learner clicks and check that the object is your button.

  4. #

Under THEN, choose Jump to slide, then pick the slide from the list.

  5. #

Check the summary line, for example "When the learner clicks Continue: jump to slide Wrap-up."

  6. #

    Choose Save.

Other places to send the learner

Under THEN you can also choose:

  • Jump to next slide or Jump to previous slide, which follow the slide order.
  • Jump to section, which opens the first slide of a section.
  • Open URL, which opens a web page.

Buttons on a scrolling page

A button block on a scrolling page has its own When clicked choice in Slide › Design, in the Blocks section:

  1. #

    Select the button block.

  2. #

Under When clicked, choose Go to slide and pick the slide, or Open a web address and type it.

  3. #

To do anything else, such as show a layer or set a variable, choose Run an interaction. The Interactions tab opens with a new interaction for that button, ready for you to add actions.

A button block with nothing to do shows the warning Button does nothing.

Tip: To branch, give each of two buttons its own interaction with a different target slide. View › Story view then shows the links between your slides as a map, so you can check every path.

Try it

  1. #

Choose Preview at the right of the ribbon tab row, or Preview options › Preview from this slide to start on the current slide.

  2. #

Click the button and check that the right slide opens.
