How do I connect Cursor or VS Code with GitHub Copilot?

Create the AI workspace, open that folder in Cursor or VS Code, and turn on the xogogy server when the app asks.

Last updated

Cursor and VS Code read the AI workspace's settings as soon as you open the folder.

Use the AI workspace

  1. #

In Xogogy, choose Help › Connect an assistant, then Create AI workspace.

  2. #

In Cursor or VS Code, open the AI workspace folder.

  3. #

When the app asks, turn on the xogogy server.

  4. #

In Cursor's agent, or in Copilot Chat in agent mode, ask: "Use Xogogy to show me the outline of my course."

Or add the server yourself

  1. #

In Xogogy, choose File › Options › Settings, go to Connect an assistant and choose Cursor or VS Code (GitHub Copilot).

  2. #

For Cursor, choose Copy next to the settings block and paste it into .cursor\mcp.json in your user folder, then restart Cursor.

  3. #

For VS Code, choose Copy next to the command. In VS Code, open the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P), run MCP: Add Server, choose Command (stdio) and paste it. Name the server xogogy.

  4. #

Review the app's trust prompt and turn the server on.

Tip: Any other AI app that runs a local (stdio) MCP server can connect the same way, using the program and arguments shown under Other AI apps. Never choose an HTTP or remote server.

GitHub Copilot

GitHub Copilot can connect to local MCP servers, so you can add Xogogy the same way. We have not tested Xogogy with GitHub Copilot yet. If something does not work, tell us.

In VS Code, for one folder only

  1. #

In Xogogy, choose File › Options › Settings, go to Connect an assistant and choose VS Code (GitHub Copilot).

  2. #

Choose Copy next to the .vscode\mcp.json block.

  3. #

In the folder you open in VS Code, create the file .vscode\mcp.json and paste the block into it. If the file already has a "servers" section, add only the "xogogy" entry inside it.

  4. #

Save the file. Review VS Code's trust prompt and start the server.

  5. #

Open Copilot Chat in agent mode and ask: "Use Xogogy to show me the outline of my course."

In the GitHub Copilot CLI

  1. #

In Xogogy, choose File › Options › Settings, go to Connect an assistant, choose VS Code (GitHub Copilot) and choose Copy next to the command.

  2. #

Open a terminal. Type copilot mcp add xogogy -- and paste the command after it, then press Enter.

  3. #

Run copilot mcp get xogogy, or type /mcp inside Copilot, to check the server and its tools.

  4. #

Ask: "Use Xogogy to list my projects."

Note: When you add the server in VS Code with Global, then Copilot Global, VS Code saves it in the same settings file the Copilot CLI reads, so you only need to add it once.

Can I use Microsoft 365 Copilot? Not at the moment. Microsoft 365 Copilot runs its agents in Microsoft's cloud, and Xogogy's assistant connection is local only: it never sends your course files off your computer.
