How do I import a Captivate project?

Choose Import course…, pick your .cptx or .cpt file, check the title and where the new course folder goes, then choose Import.

Last updated

Xogogy opens Adobe Captivate project files directly: Captivate Classic projects (.cptx) and the newer Captivate projects (.cpt). You do not need Captivate installed, and importing is free.

Import the file

  1. #

Start Xogogy. On the start screen, choose Import course…. If a course is already open, choose File › Import course… instead.

  2. #

Pick your .cptx or .cpt file and choose Open.

  3. #

In the Import course file dialog, check the Detected format. It reads Adobe Captivate Classic (.cptx source project) or Adobe Captivate (.cpt source project).

  4. #

Xogogy takes the course title from the file. To change it later, edit Course title on the Inspector's Course tab.

  5. #

Check Project folder name and Location. The location starts as the Documents › Course Studio folder. To put the course somewhere else, choose Choose location…; a save dialog opens with the name filled in.

  6. #

Choose Import. Xogogy makes a new course folder with that name, holding its .xogogy file, and shows its progress while it reads the file, checks the result and writes the course. If the name is already taken there, the course becomes Name (2), or the next free number, and a message says so. Nothing is replaced.

Tip: You can also drag the file from File Explorer or the Finder and drop it anywhere on the Xogogy window. While you drag, the window shows Drop to import, and the same Import course file dialog opens. Drop one file at a time.

Check what came across

  1. #

When the import finishes, the course opens in the editor and the header shows a findings count.

  2. #

Select the findings count to open the import report. It lists anything that did not come across exactly, and where it is.

  3. #

Choose Preview at the right of the ribbon tab row and play the course through.

Tip: A responsive .cpt course stays responsive. Its slides keep their content blocks, so they still fit phones and tablets after import.

What stays the same

Your Captivate file is never changed. Xogogy reads it and writes a separate course folder, and importing the same file again gives the same result. Shared actions, variables, states and timings come across with the slides.

Only have the published package?

If all you have is the .zip that Captivate 11 or 12 published for your LMS, import that instead. See import a published package.
