Why was my file refused when I imported it?

The import dialog says why. Most often the file is from a tool this version does not import, is damaged, or is over its size limit (4 GB for a .zip, 512 MB for a project file).

When Xogogy cannot import a file, the Import course file dialog says why in plain words. Find the message below and follow its fix.

Match the message to the fix

The dialog saysWhat to do
This is not a readable course fileChoose a .story, .cptx, .cpt or .pptx file, or a published Storyline, Captivate 11/12 or Rise .zip package
Courses created with … are out of scopeThe file comes from Lectora, iSpring or gomo, which this version does not import
This looks like an Articulate Rise package, but its course content could not be readExport the course from Rise again, then import the new .zip
contains both Storyline and Captivate project filesThe archive mixes two tools; import each course from its own file
This published package (.zip) is too large to import. Published packages (.zip) can be up to 4 GB.Remove unused media in the original tool, publish again and retry
This Storyline project (.story) is too large to import (or Captivate project (.cptx) or (.cpt))Project files can be up to 512 MB. Remove unused media in the original tool, save and retry
the files inside it add up to more than 2 GB when unpackedRemove unused media in the original tool, publish again and retry
contains too many files to import: Published packages (.zip) can hold up to 32,768 filesPublish again with fewer files, for example without unused media
the archive is not a valid zip or is damagedCopy the file again from its source, then retry

Size limits

FileLargest size
Published package (.zip: Storyline, Captivate or Rise)4 GB; the files inside may add up to 2 GB and number up to 32,768
Storyline .story, Captivate .cptx or .cpt512 MB, because the project is read into memory after it is unpacked
Course archive (.xogogyzip, or .coursezip from an older version, opened with File › Open course archive…)520 MB

The refusal names the file type and the limit that applied to it.

Try the import again

  1. #

Fix the cause from the table above.

  2. #

Choose Import course… again and pick the file.

  3. #

Check the Detected format line before you choose Import. If it names the format you expect, the import goes ahead.

Tip: A file refused partway through leaves nothing behind. Xogogy checks the course before it writes the project folder, so no half-made project is left to clean up.

Still refused?

  1. #

Choose Help › Send feedback and describe the file: which tool and version made it, and the message you saw.

  2. #

Do not attach the course itself unless you are happy to share it.
