How do I import a Storyline project?

Choose Import course…, pick your .story file, check the title and where the new course folder goes, then choose Import.

Xogogy opens Articulate Storyline project files (.story) directly. You do not need Storyline installed, and importing is free.

Import the file

  1. #

Start Xogogy. On the start screen, choose Import course…. If a course is already open, choose File › Import course… instead.

  2. #

Pick your .story file and choose Open.

  3. #

In the Import course file dialog, check the Detected format. It should read Articulate Storyline (.story source project).

  4. #

Check the Course title. Xogogy fills it in from the file's own title, or from the file name when the file has none. Change it if you like; Import stays greyed out while the title is empty.

  5. #

Check Project folder name and Location. The location starts as the Documents › Course Studio folder. To put the course somewhere else, choose Choose location…; a save dialog opens with the name filled in.

  6. #

Choose Import. Xogogy makes a new course folder with that name, holding its .xogogy file, and shows its progress while it reads the file, checks the result and writes the course. If the name is already taken there, the course becomes Name (2), or the next free number, and a message says so. Nothing is replaced.

Check what came across

  1. #

When the import finishes, the course opens in the editor and the header shows a findings count, such as 3 findings.

  2. #

Select the findings count to open the import report. It lists, in plain language, anything that did not come across exactly and where it is in the course.

  3. #

Choose Preview at the right of the ribbon tab row to play the course and compare it with the original.

Tip: You can also drag the file from File Explorer or the Finder and drop it anywhere on the Xogogy window. While you drag, the window shows Drop to import, and the same Import course file dialog opens. Drop one file at a time.

Tip: Your .story file is never changed. Xogogy reads it and writes a separate course folder, so you can import the same file again at any time and get the same result.

Quizzes and scenes

  • Each Storyline scene becomes a section in the Slides panel, in the same order.
  • Quizzes come across whole: the player's Submit button, which questions belong to the quiz, and the score and pass mark your results slide shows. Answer them in Preview to check.
  • Answer keys for multiple choice, fill-in and matching questions come from the file. For a sequence question, the correct order is read from how the items are laid out on the slide, and the report asks you to check it. Word bank questions need their key set by you; see fix an unknown answer key.
  • When the file does not list which questions are in the quiz, Xogogy builds it from every scored question slide in course order, and the report says so.
  • If the course reports incomplete on a failed quiz, Xogogy keeps that. See Why doesn't my LMS mark the course as complete?.

What gets created

The course folder holds the course as plain files: the .xogogy file you open, the course itself, its media in an assets folder, its edit history and the import report. Open it later with Open project on the start screen, or by double-clicking the .xogogy file. See How do I save and reopen my project?.
