How do I import questions from a list, a spreadsheet or a QTI file?

Choose Insert › Question and set Question source to Import questions from plain text, CSV or QTI. Paste a list or CSV, or choose a QTI file, then choose Import questions.

Writing many questions at once is quicker in a spreadsheet or a plain list, and many LMSs and quiz tools can export a QTI file. Xogogy turns them into question slides, or adds them to a question bank, in one step you can undo.

Paste a list or a CSV

  1. #

Select the slide the questions should follow.

  2. #

    Choose Insert › Question.

  3. #

Set Question source to Import questions from plain text, CSV or QTI.

  4. #

Choose the quiz under Quiz assignment, or keep the questions standalone.

  5. #

Set Import format to Plain text or CSV.

  6. #

Paste your questions into Questions (plain text or CSV).

  7. #

Choose Import questions. If any question has a problem, nothing is added and the dialog lists each problem and how to fix it.

Plain text and CSV imports create multiple choice and true/false questions.

Write a plain-text list

  1. #

Put each question in its own block, with a blank line between blocks.

  2. #

Write the prompt on the first line of the block, for example Where should the top of your screen be?

  3. #

Put one choice on each line below it, such as - Level with your chest.

  4. #

Start the correct choice with *, for example * At or slightly below eye level.

  5. #

For a true/false question, write the statement, then ANSWER: true or ANSWER: false on the next line.

Use a CSV file

  1. #

Use a header row of type,prompt,choice1,choice2,correct, with more choice columns if you need them.

  2. #

Set type to multiple_choice or true_false.

  3. #

In correct, give the choice number (such as 1) for multiple choice, or true or false.

  4. #

Save the sheet as CSV, open it in a text editor, and copy its contents into the dialog.

Import a QTI file

Xogogy reads IMS QTI 1.2, 2.1, 2.2 and 3.0: a package .zip with its imsmanifest.xml, or a single question .xml file.

  1. #

Choose Insert › Question and set Question source to Import questions from plain text, CSV or QTI.

  2. #

Set Import format to QTI file (.zip or .xml) and choose Choose QTI file….

  3. #

Read the list the dialog shows before anything changes. It names each question with its type and its answer key: answer key stated in the file, answer key worked out from the scoring rules: check it, or no answer key found: set it after importing.

  4. #

Check Not imported. It lists the items Xogogy cannot bring in, such as hotspot questions, each with its reason. Already in the course, skipped lists questions you imported before.

  5. #

Under Add the questions as, choose Question slides (one slide per question) or one of the course's question banks. To fill a bank, create it first under Slides › Question banks.

  6. #

Choose Import questions. A single Undo removes the whole import.

Scripts inside a QTI file are never run. Images inside the questions are not brought in yet; each one is noted in the import report.

Tip: Xogogy never guesses an answer key. A question with no key in the file is marked so you can set it; see fix an unknown answer key. Your AI assistant can run the same import for you.
