You can add video (MP4 or WebM) and audio (MP3, WAV or Ogg) files up to 50 MB each. Every media object needs a short description, and you can attach captions and a transcript so more learners can follow it.
Add a video or audio file
- #
Select the slide in the Slides panel.
- #
On the Insert tab, choose Video or Audio in the Media group.
- #
Under Media type, check that Video (MP4, WebM) or Audio (MP3, WAV, Ogg) is selected.
- #
Choose Choose media file… and pick the file.
- #
Fill in Alt text (required) with a short description of the media, such as "Video: adjusting your chair height".
- #
To add captions, choose Choose captions file (.vtt)… and pick a WebVTT caption file.
- #
To add a transcript, type or paste it into Transcript (optional).
- #
Choose Place on slide, then click on the slide where the player should go.
While you edit, nothing plays on the slide. An audio object shows as a speaker card with its name, file name and length, and a video shows its first frame with a strip naming it. Choose Preview to hear and watch them.
Choose how it plays
- #
Select the video or audio object. The Format tab shows Video or Audio on its badge.
- #
In Playback, turn Start automatically, Loop until stopped and Show media controls on or off.
- #
A setting you have not chosen shows as not pressed, and its tooltip says the player decides. Player default removes all three so the player decides again.
- #
Captions and transcript opens the Inspector's Media section, where you can change the captions file and the transcript.
Each change is one step you can undo.
Play it from a button
The clip plays every time the learner clicks, also after the slide's timeline has finished and with Show media controls off, which suits a short sound effect. Clicking again while it plays starts it again from the beginning. A paused clip carries on from where it stopped.
Control when it appears
- #
Select the media object. On the Animations tab, type its Start and Duration in seconds in the Timing group, or use the Timeline below the slide.
- #
Tip: If a file or its captions cannot be used, the dialog says why and nothing is added, so you never end up with half a media object. Change how captions look for learners in the player settings; see How do I change the caption style?.
