How do I set up the player's menu and sidebar?

Choose Player on the Design tab, set the outline, sidebar and Menu navigation under Layout, add a logo, then choose Apply changes.

The player is the frame around your slides: the sidebar with the course outline, the bar of buttons and the logo. You set it up in Player properties, which shows a live preview as you go.

Open Player properties

  1. #

On the Design tab, choose Player. Or open Course settings › Player & appearance and choose Player properties….

  2. #

The settings are on the left and the Live preview on the right. Nothing changes in the course until you apply.

Set the outline and sidebar

    Open Layout.

  2. #

Turn Show the outline on or off.

  3. #

Choose the Sidebar position: Left, Right, Top or Over the slide (opens from the menu button).

  4. #

Choose the Outline style: Tree (sections with slides inside), Flat list or Compact, and whether to show Slide numbers in the outline.

  5. #

Set Sidebar starts to Auto, Open or Collapsed.

  6. #

Under Sidebar tabs, set the Resources and Glossary tabs to Auto, Show or Hide, and move them up or down. Use the player's own order resets the order.

Control how learners move around

  1. #

    Under Menu navigation, choose:

    • Free: jump to any slide
    • Restricted: only slides already seen and the next one
    • Locked: the outline shows progress but cannot be used to jump
  2. #

To rename, reorder or hide entries in the outline, choose Create menu from slide order and edit the list. Your slides stay in their order.

On a scrolling page, Restricted and Locked also keep Next off until the learner has used every Continue button on the page. Under Free, Continue buttons only hide what follows them.

Save the changes
