You can build a course in Xogogy from nothing, as well as import one. A new course starts with one title slide, ready for more.
Create the course
- #
On the start screen, choose New course…. If a course is already open, choose File › New course.
- #
Type a Course title.
- #
Choose a Course type. The hint under the field says what the selected type means.
- Fixed slides (place objects anywhere): each slide has a set size. You position objects freely, with layers, states and a timeline. On a phone the slide scales down.
- Scrolling page (stacked blocks): content stacks from top to bottom and scrolls, like a web page. Blocks reflow to fit any screen.
- #
Choose a Slide size: 16:9 Widescreen (1280 × 720), 4:3 Standard (1024 × 768), 9:16 Vertical (720 × 1280) or Custom size, where you type the width and height.
- #
Choose Create course. The course opens straight away, held in memory until you save it. Its theme uses Literata for headings and Inter for body text, two of the fonts included with every course.
- #
Press Ctrl+S or choose Save. A save dialog opens in the Documents › Course Studio folder with the course title as the name. Choose Save, and Xogogy makes a folder with that name holding the course and its
.xogogyfile. See How do I save and reopen my project?.
If the open course has unsaved changes, Xogogy asks what to do with them before the dialog opens. If you then choose Cancel, the course you had open stays as it was.
Add your first slides
- #
On the Home tab, choose New slide, or press Ctrl+M. The arrow beside it offers a Blank slide.
- #
Type the slide title and confirm. The slide appears after the selected one.
- #
Choose Add section to group slides under a name, such as a lesson.
Tip: Want a head start? Start from a template instead, such as the built-in Accessible Starter Course.
Mix fixed slides and scrolling pages
The course type sets the kind of slide you start with. It does not lock the course: one course can hold fixed slides and scrolling pages in any order, and it publishes as one package with one score and one resume point.
To add a fixed slide to a scrolling course:
- #
Select the scrolling page the new slide should follow.
- #
On the Insert tab, choose an item that needs free placement, such as Slider or Shape. On a scrolling page it is greyed out, and choosing it explains that it needs a free-layout slide.
- #
In the message that appears, choose Add a free-layout slide with …. A fixed slide is added after the page, ready for you to place the item. Undo removes it.
To turn a fixed slide into a scrolling page:
- #
Select the slide, with no object selected, and open the Properties tab.
- #
Open the Blocks section and choose Switch to flow / block layout. The other fixed slides stay as they are.
