How do I see the whole course as a map?

Choose View › Story view. Each section is a row of slide cards, with lines for the links between slides. Select a slide to see where it leads, then open it or preview from it.

Story view shows the whole course on one screen: every section, every slide, and the links between them. Use it to check where each slide leads, to find links that go nowhere, and to jump to a slide.

Open Story view

  1. #

Open the View tab on the ribbon.

  2. #

Choose Story view. You can also press Alt+Q, type story and run the command.

  3. #

To go back to editing slides, choose View › Slide view.

The bar at the top counts the sections, slides and links in the course.

Read the map

  1. #

Each section is a row with its number, its name and its slide count. Slides that belong to no section are in a row called Other slides.

  2. #

Each slide is a card with a picture of the slide, its number and name, and how many objects and layers it has. The first slide the learner sees is marked START.

  3. #

Lines join the slides. The label on each line says what kind of link it is: Next, On click or Jump. The key in the top-left corner shows the same.

  4. #

Drag the map to move around. Use the mouse wheel or the − and + buttons to zoom, and Fit to see everything. The button beside Fit shows the map at full size. Ctrl+0 fits the map too.

  5. #

Click the Overview box in the bottom-right corner to move to that part of the map.

Tip: Choose List at the top for a text version of the map. Each slide lists where it leads and what leads to it. It works well with a keyboard and a screen reader.

A link is unresolved when its target is missing, for example a jump to a slide that was deleted. It shows as a dashed line labelled Unresolved, and its slide card has a ! mark.

A slide whose panel says No declared outgoing links has no interaction that leads to another slide, section or layer. Check that this is what you want, for example on the last slide.

Open a slide or preview from it

  1. #

    Select the slide.

  2. #

Choose Open slide to edit it. Double-clicking the card, or pressing Enter, does the same.

  3. #

Choose Preview from here to play the course from that slide.

Story view shows the links that the course's interactions declare. It does not show the player's own Next and Previous buttons. Conditions are not worked out, so both branches of a condition appear, and nothing in the course runs here. Looking at the map never changes your course. + Section in the top bar adds a section, the same as the Add section command.
